Description

White oak is a very strong and durable wood that has been used widely in America over the past centuries.  Not only is it strong, but the wood has a higher resistance to rot than other hardwoods, including red oak, due to the structure of the wood. In recent years, white oak has gained great popularity in the flooring industry, both as a select wood and as the popular rustic wood.

Our white oak flooring ranges in color from a light golden brown to a lighter gray and features an open grain with long rays with occasional cathedrals, swirls and burls.  All our white oak is live sawn, which means we will cut it the same way it was cut over a century ago, giving you a very classic look.  On a more technical note, each log will produce wood that you would see if it were plain sawn, with a cathedral look to the grain.  It will also produce wood that has the grain running perpendicular to the face, or quarter sawn, which in the oak family produces a magnificent flake pattern, also called tiger rays or butterflies.

Our select grade white oak has few to no knots and is well suited for larger areas, and also for staining a variety of colors.  Our rustic white oak will feature many knots and streaks that naturally form in the wood— giving the flooring great character. Unlike many of our competitors, we will not include knots that are unsound, that could fall out, or floor boards that have open holes or cracks.  If you desire this in your floor we can allow this through the inspection process; just let us know when you order.
