Black Locust

Description

Kingdom Forestry Products is a premier Black Locust Deck supplier. The Locust we supply is one of the greatest natural hidden treasures in America!  It is a tree that was here at the time of our nation’s settlement and was widely used at that time.  Yet, currently it is one of the most unrecognized and highly unknown woods.  Some of the remarkable properties of the wood include its incredible strength and its very high rot resistance.  In fact, Black Locust has such a high resistance to rot it has often been called the “100 year wood.”  This is because wood posts have been found that have lasted in the ground without rotting away after 100 years.  The tree itself is unique in that it is one of very few that can ‘fix’ or add nitrogen to the soil from the air.  Also, it is an extremely fast growing tree, which makes it very renewable.

Black Locust has a unique grain pattern that is golden like a ripe field of wheat, yet it is accentuated with dark brown grain lines that have a cathedral pattern that is similar to that of an oak or ash tree.  The wood tends to have more character and knots than other species of wood, but it can produce wonderful select grade lumber.  With the strength of black locust, you can expect that this is a very durable wood that can hold up to any environment you place it in.  It is also well suited for outdoor decking and fencing and can be labeled as an organic alternative to pressure treated lumber. We offer high quality deck boards that are typically 8-12 feet long, and that are competitively priced.
