Black Walnut
Description
If there was ever an American tree well suited for American royalty, the black walnut would be that tree. At the very mention of the name, the first thought is wealth and how exotic the wood is. It is our pleasure to offer an un-steamed black walnut for your home.
The process of steaming black walnut is as follows. Large batches of the wood are put in a pressure vessel and pressurized with steam for a time. The steam causes the rich dark colors of black walnut to bleed into the lighter and white areas. This process gives the manufacturer more valuable wood to work with, but robs the customer of the natural beauty that the tree and your flooring once had.
Black walnut wood is a little softer than oak, while it is still heavy and stiff with exceptional dimensional stability. Black walnut flooring, when unselected, will provide your home with an amazing array of rich dark heartwood that is highlighted by the creamy white sapwood. Most of our black walnut is live sawn, which means you will be provided with a good amount of this wonderful mix. If you would prefer a purely dark brown walnut floor, then we can offer you a heartwood only floor.
