Red Oak

Description

Red Oak in our opinion is the classical American workhorse of hardwood flooring.  Its grain structure and hints of red, along with its high strength and durability make this a very desirable flooring.

The grain pattern of red oak ranges in color from light reddish pink to shades of brown.  Red Oak flooring differs from white oak because of its pink hue, which can often become golden in color over time.  We offer two varieties or saw cuts of red oak, both of which accentuate the grain of the wood in their own way.  First, we offer a plain sawn red oak, which shows off the classic cathedral pattern that is formed by the grain.  We also offer a quarter and rift-sawn red oak which has a unique flake pattern or butterfly pattern in the wood.  Another unique feature of red oak vs. white oak is that most red oak trees produce a much higher percentage of select grade lumber.  This simply means that if you were to order a rustic grade red oak, it would have far fewer areas of knots and character than its brother white oak, while at the same time giving you a very unique and character filled floor.
